The August, September, October Blog
Well it has been a while since the last blog post, three months and very few rides. Charlie and Keith ventured down from the wild North for a ride at the start of August, that evening all my bikes were stolen from the shed in the garden, by some (allegedly) prolific bike thieves. My security measures proved inadequate and they got away with four bikes, to cut a long story short, the Merida gravel bike was recovered, dumped a couple of streets away, probably because of the tiny spd pedals which made it difficult to ride without the proper shoes and cleats.
I had committed the majority of August to a charity project, so only managed a couple of rides on the gravel bike before we disappeared to the land down under for the whole of September and the first few days of October. Returned to England with jetlag and 250gb of photo and video footage to wade through, riding took a bit of a backseat for a while.
Eventually got round to blowing the insurance money on a new bike around the middle of October and have been breaking myself in gently ever since. Not having ridden since the beginning of August, some things have came as a shock, stuff like mud and wind, drizzle and gloom at midday; not to mention, after two sedentary months, which were spent mostly in the seated position, the lung-burning, leg-screaming ascents followed by bone-chilling cold as the wind freezes sweat at the top of the hill. From tropical Far North Queensland, thirty eight degrees celsius to Highcliffe Nab, not even double figures celsius. If only the saying “freezing my tits off” applied to moobs It would be worth it. So, feast your eyes on some pictures from the rides and hopefully November’s blog will be a bit more substantial. As usual clicking on the ride name will take you to the Strava page, where you can laugh at how slow we are.
